Meet the Fellows - The Next Big Thing in Science - Jacob Wolfe

𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗼 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗜𝗻𝗯𝗼𝘅

Driven by a love of data, transformation, and discovery, Jacob is an early-career scientist whose path into peptide science began during graduate school at the University of Pittsburgh. Through a specialized program, he learned how to make peptides, think critically about research, and navigate the demands of the lab by wearing many hats. There, he analyzed data and executed independent protein design projects using HPLC, mass spectrometry, and solid-phase peptide synthesis to develop and validate enzyme homologues with variable activity. He also collaborated to screen small-molecule covalent inhibitors of papain protease.

Now looking beyond his PhD, Jacob is focused on pivoting from peptide catalysis — work that sits at the intersection of chemistry and medicine. His vision is to use peptides as a tool to replace fluorescently labeled antibodies, enabling the rapid generation of biophysical assays for drug development.

Outside the lab, Jacob is on a mission to make good science more visible. He runs the Peptide Chemistry Journal Club Group on LinkedIn and an associated newsletter that delivers hundreds of curated, relevant articles to his readers every week - part public service, part passion project! And work entirely characteristic of someone who finds deep meaning in the process of making sense of things.
