2026 Nobel Prize in Chemistry - from Kagan's DIOP ligand to the building blocks in your next synthesis

This year's Nobel Prize in Chemistry went to Henri B. Kagan and Kenso Soai for their remarkable work in asymmetric synthesis and explaining how a chemical reaction can favor one mirror image over the other.

In a drug or peptide, only one of the two possible mirror images will be effective and do the job while the other does nothing or causes harm. Controlling chirality is central to making drugs, peptides and fine chemicals. Kagan's Chiral catalyst, the DIOP ligand, helped make this possible.

And the ligand that helped start it all is in our catalog, along with other building blocks:

✔️ (+)-DIOP (Cat. No. 40737)

✔️ Asymmetric Synthesis: chiral building blocks and reagents.

✔️ Unusual Amino Acids: non-canonical building blocks for peptide and macrocycle work.
